Coast Guard Warns Mackenzie River Users of Low Water

Canadian Coast Guard

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories - The Canadian Coast Guard is warning mariners to use extreme caution and prioritize safety on the Mackenzie River due to low water levels, specifically between Wrigley Harbour on Great Slave Lake and the entrance of the Aklavik Channel (Mile 952) near Inuvik.

Due to the current conditions, the Canadian Coast Guard's levels of service, such providing on-the-water response and maintaining aids to navigation, is impacted. Anyone planning to use the river should consult Navigational Warnings (NAVWARNs) regularly for updates.

Until conditions improve, the CCGS Eckaloo will operate on Great Slave Lake, while the CCGS Dumit will operate on the Mackenzie River from the entrance of the Aklavik Channel to Tuktoyaktuk.

The Canadian Coast Guard is monitoring the water levels and will return to full service as soon as possible.
