New café Olive's Lane is doing more than simply serving up great coffee.
Named after the St Kilda PCYC's (Police and Citizens Youth Club) founder Olive Johnston, Olive's Lane is providing valuable life and workplace skills by offering entry level employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people.
Bella, the café's first trainee barista, couldn't wait to put on her apron. "I'm honoured and excited to be making amazing coffees and to be working with such a beautiful business," she said shortly before the 7 August launch.
The proceeds also help the St Kilda PCYC deliver local youth outreach programs aimed at helping young people engage in positive and healthy activities.
Olive's Lane is nestled in the refurbished driveway of the PCYC youth club and gym at 179 Inkerman Street, St Kilda.
The café is open every day from 7 am until 2.30 pm, including for takeaways during COVID-19 restrictions. .Phone orders can be made by calling 03 9534 7584.
To celebrate the opening, Olive's Lane is running a Cutest Dog Competition from 30 August until 17 September 2021.
Just take a pic of you and your pooch under the Olive's Lane sign and upload it to the St Kilda PCYC's Facebook page. A facial (for you!) and a doggie pack are up for grabs.
