Collie's New Resort Celebrated Following Major Upgrades

  • Collie Ridge Resort officially opens, marking another tourism milestone for Collie
  • Supported by the Cook Labor Government as part of efforts to diversify Collie's economy
  • Upgraded accommodation and facilities to support local tourism, local jobs

Collie's transformation into a must-visit tourist destination has reached a new milestone, with the official opening of the upgraded Collie Ridge Resort.

As part of Collie's Just Transition, the WA Labor Government has delivered significant investments to put the town onto the tourist map - including the Wellington Dam mural and walkway, adventure trails, and the new campgrounds and facilities at Lake Kepwari.

Through the Collie Futures Industry Development Fund, the Cook Government provided almost $590,000 to upgrade the Collie Ridge Motel into a modern resort to meet demand from the tourism and corporate markets.

The staged enhancement project has resulted in a raft of upgraded and new features that elevate the guest experience - including a revamp of the restaurant and function rooms, and the addition of a wellness centre, gym, rooftop function area, swimming pool and children's playground.

Originally built in 2005 as a motel with 53 rooms, the property has expanded to 134 rooms.

Premier Roger Cook and Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns today joined representatives from Collie Ridge Resort to celebrate the completion of the complex's redevelopment.

The Cook Labor Government is continuing to invest in Collie as the town transitions from a coal-based economy to a more diverse and sustainable future.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"We've put Collie on the map as a major tourism destination for Western Australia.

"More and more visitors are coming to town, creating local jobs, supporting local businesses and helping to diversify the local economy.

"The Collie Ridge's transition from motel to resort is a real symbol of this town's transformation - and the strong future ahead for the local community."

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"There has been plenty of interest in Collie's new tourist attractions and experiences, and this is creating opportunities for local businesses and tourism operators.

"Collie's accommodation offerings are expanding with support from the Collie Futures Fund, with a range of new options being supported including accessible accommodation - this means more choice for visitors."

As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns:

"I warmly welcome the upgrade and expansion of this accommodation facility, which is experiencing very high occupancy rates - and bookings well in advance.

"Collie's tourism appeal is growing, and a resort will give tourists more options when staying in town - and the longer people stay, the more people spend in town, resulting in flow-on benefits to local tourism operators and businesses."
