Police caught 49 drink drivers and 10 drug drivers during a major road policing operation on Melbourne's Monash Freeway over the weekend.
Operation Colossus, which was conducted over Friday and Saturday night, saw police conducting high volume alcohol and drug testing on the Monash Freeway, targeting impaired drivers.
Police also impounded eight vehicles, detected nine disqualified / suspended or unlicensed drivers, arrested three people for theft of motor car and issued 18 infringement notices.
Other incidents of note include:
- A 27-year-old man returning an alleged breath test reading of 0.177.
- A car detected travelling at 152km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Monash. The driver was subsequently processed for drug and unlicensed driving.
- A stolen car driving through a testing site. It was stopped a short distance away and the three occupants arrested.
- A driver being arrested in Hampton Park after failing to stop at the testing site.
Police will continue to have a major focus on impaired drivers, with a statewide road policing operation set to kick off on Friday ahead of the Labour Day long weekend in Victoria.
