Responding to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and recognising the impact it continues to have on the Stonnington community, in early 2021 Council established a Community Recovery Committee that meets monthly with community members to understand the impacts the pandemic has had on them and to collaboratively respond.
One of the key opportunities identified to support the community was to ensure residents, organisations and local employers could easily access information and navigate the different support services on offer – from grants and financial assistance, to mental health and social reconnection.
This led to the launch of our new Community Support and Recovery information directory.
City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Kate Hely, said efforts to engage and work with community members via the Community Recovery Committee has ensured our recovery is informed by local knowledge, and led by passionate community members.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our community in many ways. Businesses have suffered from lockdown restrictions and people have endured financial hardship and insecurity for the future.
"Families have been kept apart and the effects of isolation for many in the community has led to increased anxiety and mental health issues.
"We are responding to these challenges by providing the community with vital resources to help in the recovery. Workshops, links to services and the Community Support and Recovery information directory make it easier for people to access important information and services they, or their loved ones may need.
"Recovery is best achieved when the community has easy access to information, support and resources", said Cr Hely.
The City of Stonnington will continue to work with the community throughout 2021 to foster connection and resilience.
