CommBank ParaMatildas Countdown To IFCPF World Cup 2024

The CommBank ParaMatildas will embark on another historic journey in 100 days' time when they compete in the IFCPF World Cup 2024 in Salou, Spain.

Set to take place from 11 - 20 November, the event marks a significant milestone for the team, who are currently ranked world number one in CP Women's Football.

Representing Australia as the national football team for female athletes with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, or symptoms of stroke, the CommBank ParaMatildas have been working tirelessly in preparation for the tournament, completing three intensive training camps so far this year held between Sydney and Canberra.

The CommBank ParaMatildas, formed in 2022, made an impressive debut at the inaugural IFCPF Women's World Cup the same year when they finished second in their group behind the USA and advanced to the Final, where they faced the Americans once more. Despite a valiant effort, they missed out on the title, securing a commendable silver medal.

Since then, the CommBank ParaMatildas have continued to build on their success. In 2023, they claimed their first major trophy by defeating Japan in the IFCPF Asia Oceania Championships Final, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

Head Coach Kelly Stirton is determined to continue their strong form in the international arena and go one step further in November.

"We're focused and determined to give our all at the World Cup," Stirton said.

"The 2022 World Cup was a valuable learning experience for us. We came so close, and now we're more motivated than ever to be crowned World Champions.

"Since the team's inception in 2022, we've made tremendous strides forward and the players have shown incredible dedication and commitment in that time. It's been amazing to watch them grow both individually and collectively.

"Our goal is clear, we want to bring home the World Cup. We respect all our opponents but believe in our abilities and are confident that we can achieve something special in Spain," Stirton concluded.

The CommBank ParaMatildas are proud to partner with the Australian Sports Foundation, enabling supporters to make tax-deductible donations that directly contribute to the development and success of the team on the world stage.
