If you love Mount Noorat, you're invited to help shape its future.
The Mount Noorat Management Committee is looking for five new members for the next four years.
Committee Chair Chris O'Connor said the group's main job was to implement the Mount Noorat Management Plan and Mount Noorat Risk and Emergency Management Plan.
"The plans were developed after extensive community consultation and include detailed actions to make sure the site's management satisfies community expectations," Mr O'Connor said.
"Anybody from the community can put their hat in the ring before 5 pm, Monday 29 June," Mr O'Connor said.
"We want to know why you are interested in joining, how you can contribute, and what skills and experience you can bring.
"Ideally we will have people with diverse backgrounds and expertise, from project management to propagation, fencing, weed management, fundraising, building and more."
Central Ward Councillor and Noorat resident Helen Durant encouraged community members to be proactive in protecting the remarkable natural asset.
"Mount Noorat means many things to different people. It is a significant geological site, home to diverse flora and fauna, a great place to walk and enjoy the views, serenity and the beautiful natural environment."
"As part of the Volcanic Lakes and Plains tourism region, it can be a major drawcard for the visitor economy with flow on benefits for Noorat and other Shire towns north of the highway.
"Whatever your background, I encourage you to get a copy of the position description and think about what skills you can bring, along with enthusiasm and a positive attitude."
The Committee has 10 elected community members, a Council Officer and standing members Eve and Gina Black, representing the family of Niel Black who bequeathed the mount to the community.
There are five strategic objectives:
- protected and enhanced natural values;
- quality visitor experiences that reflect the character of the site;
- Aboriginal and European history is understood and respected;
- walking tracks are accessible, well maintained and cater for diverse experiences; and
- self-sustaining financial management and governance.
