Do you want to be involved in how we design communications and engagement programs for Council? Our Communications and Engagement Advisory Group (CEAG) now has vacancies and we're recruiting 3 new members!

Better communication and more opportunities for community input is a top priority for our elected Council. The CEAG helps us plan how we're going to communicate and seek community input into Council projects that have a significant social impact on the community.

The group works together with Councillors and Council staff as local experts to identify who Council should engage with, how best to deliver communications, and how we can get our community involved in Council decision-making. They help to make our place more inclusive, connected and liveable.

Over the last year, the CEAG has played a crucial role in shaping our community and engagement approaches for the Local Housing Strategy, Community Wellbeing Strategy, Salamander Bay Town Centre Place Plan, Coastal Management Program, and more.

For example, the group has been successful in influencing the Council to include general community members at the Local Housing Forum in November 2024 as part of the Local Housing Strategy. They also recently suggested a pop-up space to talk to local residents at the Salamander Bay Shopping Centre as part of the Salamander Bay Town Centre Place Plan, resulting in over 350 participants.

We want to make sure that the expression of interest (EOI) reaches as many people in our community as possible – it's important we have a good representation of who our community is whether that be age, gender or where they live.

Community representatives on the CEAG must reside, work, or study in the Port Stephens Local Government Area (LGA) and demonstrate they meet three or more of the below criteria:

  • Have strong community networks and linkages relevant to the group.
  • Have current involvement in the community.
  • Have a willingness to make an active contribution to discussions.
  • Have the capacity to commit to the CEAG until the election in 2028.

Applicants must be available to attend the initial meeting on Wednesday 2 July. Hybrid meetings occur quarterly to make it easier for people to attend.

We're ensuring the EOI process is inclusive. EOIs will be accepted in multiple formats, including but not limited to:

  • Online Form
  • By phone at 02 4988 0255
  • In-person at our Administration Building, Adelaide Street, Raymond Terrace.

If you're interested, please submit an Expression of Interest at https://pscouncil.info/CEAGEOI by midnight, Tuesday 24 June 2025.
