National Red Balloon Day is celebrated every year on 28 February to say thank-you to firefighters for the brave and courageous work they do.
Community members right across the state threw their support behind their local fireys. In addition to putting out their red balloons, local schools created works of art to honour their local brigade.
Members of Wallen Fire Brigade received a visit from children and staff from a local childcare facility and kindergarten. The children created a mural and presented messages thanking volunteers for being their heroes.
Arthurs Creek Strathewen brigade members felt very loved after arriving at both stations to find a mural of appreciation from the students at Strathewen Primary School. The mural includes a photo of every student holding a sign saying: Thank you to all of our volunteer firefighters. We love your work!
Students from Taradale Primary School also said thanks with a mural. The brigade also received cards, letters and donations from their supportive community.
