A Shire wide clean up commences from Monday 17 March following extensive damage from Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The residential clean-up will be done suburb by suburb in the coming weeks. A weekly updated schedule of collections will be available on Council's website Ex-Cyclone Alfred community clean up and promoted across Council's social media channels.
Director Sustainable Communities and Environment, Naomi Searle confirmed the Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre has reopened to the public as we undertake a shire wide clean-up to get the Tweed back to normal.
"We are starting the residential shire wide clean-up in the suburbs of Tweed Heads (including West and South), Banora Point (all) and Pottsville (all) and ask these suburbs to have all items out by 6 am on Monday 17 March for collection. Residents can avoid delays or a trip to the tip and over the next few weeks we will be coming to you.
"We will then gradually progress around the shire, but it will take time so please be patient. We encourage residents in all other suburbs to have their cyclone clean up out on the kerb by Sunday 23 March at the latest.
"Please place all green and hard waste in neat piles on the kerb, but not on the road and not in a spot that will impede regular household bin collections. We trust our community will only put out legitimate cyclone-impacted green and hard waste so we can get back on track quickly."
Need to know:
- Kerbside collection of green and hard waste starts Monday 17 March in Tweed Heads (including West and South), Banora Point (all) and Pottsville (all).
- Please place cyclone-affected green and hard waste in separate neat piles on your kerb. Do not place items on the road or where it will impede regular household bin collections.
- Keep green waste and other waste separate. They will be collected by different trucks at different times.
- Collection will be from the kerb only. Council or its contractors are not able to enter private property or trim any vegetation on private property.
- Help us spread the word by telling your neighbour, friends and family about kerbside collection.
Residential clean up options:
Free kerb side green and hard waste collection – avoid the tip.
- Use your regular green bin service for anything that can fit like leaves, light debris, fronds or unpackaged food waste or your red and yellow bin service for hard waste items that fit.
