Community Corrections officers across Queensland were recognised today after graduating from the Practitioner Development Program (PDP) at a ceremony at the Queensland Corrective Services Academy.
Deputy Commissioner Community Corrections and Specialist Operations Sarah Hyde acknowledged the hard work of all Community Corrections officers and thanked them for the vital role they played in community safety across the state.
"Queensland communities are, and continue to be, safer thanks to the hard work of all officers in preventing re-offending and helping offenders lead crime-free lives, and I thank you for that," Deputy Commissioner Hyde said.
"It's wonderful to be able to acknowledge the dedication and important work of all officers."
The PDP expands on the fundamental skills required of participating officers across a range of areas, including risk management, pro-social modelling, cultural awareness, effective decision making, and working with the victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence.
DC Hyde said Community Corrections officers were a critical part of the correctional system.
"They are agents of change, dealing with the most challenging people in society and working to achieve positive safety outcomes," DC Hyde said.
"Community Corrections officers are dedicated and passionate people, working hard to reconnect offenders to their communities to break the cycle of re-offending.
"Their commitment to the training will expand their skills and prepare them well in their Community Corrections careers.
"I commend and congratulate the graduating officers, who are all well deserving of this achievement," DC Hyde said.
