The Tasmanian Government is seeking community feedback on options for a second River Tamar Bridge between the East and West Tamar Highways.
Minister for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said feedback received during the consultation period would be valuable in informing future planning and designs, and funding for the new crossing.
"We want to gain a better understanding from the local community, businesses and other key stakeholders about what they would like to see in the second River Tamar Bridge," Minister Vincent said.
"Five options have been identified for the bridge, each of which will improve connectivity between the East and West Tamar Highways, and give people greater choice when travelling around the Greater Launceston area and through the CBD.
"Understanding the community's needs will help us determine the best location and connections into the highways on either side of the river that work best for everyone."
Community members can have their say on the new crossing options from Monday, 31 March 2025 to Friday, 18 April 2025 at the West Tamar and Launceston City Council offices, or online via an interactive map on the Transport website at www.transport.tas.gov.au/new-tamar-crossing
Four information sessions with the project team will also give community members the opportunity to provide feedback in person. These sessions will be held on:
"To date, the Tasmanian Government has committed $80 million towards the new crossing, with the Australian Government recently committing a further $20 million to planning and design of the bridge," Minister Vincent said.
"Further public consultation will be held once necessary investigations, planning and design work for the chosen option have been completed, based on the feedback received."
