Community groups share in more than $137,000

Fifty-seven community groups and events will share in more than $137,000 through Swan Hill Rural City Council's community and events grants.

At yesterday's Ordinary Council Meeting, Councillors approved the successful applicants for the 2019 Event Support Fund and Community Development Fund.

  • Event Support Fund - 33 events will be funded to a total of $70,500. This support includes cash contributions and in-kind support for things like traffic management, signage and cleaning.

Grants will be provided to regular events like the Lake Boga Yacht Club Easter Regatta, Mallee Almond Blossom Festival, Nyah District Christmas Carnival and Swan Hill Autumn Bowls Carnival, as well as new events like an Ultima art and craft exhibition, and the Robinvale Lantern Festival.

  • Community Development Fund – 24 projects will be funded to a total of $67,264.

Grants will be provided to projects right across the municipality. For example, a new oven for the Manangatang Public Hall; a leadership camp for Swan Hill Junior Fire Brigade, an electronic target for the Robinvale Rifle Club, and new technology equipment for the Piangil community.

Mayor Ann Young she was pleased that so many community groups applied.

"We know that community groups will make a big difference to their local clubs and communities with this money, as well as putting on events that improve our region's livability and attract visitors and dollars to our municipality," Cr Ann Young said.

"These grants are sought after, and I encourage any group that has not been successful this year to consider applying again in 2020," she said.

At yesterday's Council meeting, Councillors also approved $30,000 in cash and in-kind support for Mildura Entertainment to run the Swan Hill New Year's Eve festival again in 2019.

All applicants will be contacted about their grant application soon. You can see a full list of successful applicants on Council's website.
