Kiama Council is asking for community feedback on three important community infrastructure projects – sports and recreation facilities in Kiama and Gerringong, and the jetty at Kiama Harbour.
We're seeking community feedback on the development of masterplans for two sports complexes in our LGA: Kiama Sports Complex aka 'Quarry Sportsfields' (Havilah Place) and South Werri Reserve, Gerringong.
These two spaces were both identified as part of Council's recent Open Spaces and Recreation Strategy consultations as being in need of an update. Both are well-used by the community and local sports teams.
We're looking wholistically at both spaces to plan for their best use now and into the future. The upgrades are likely to include upgrading the facilities and will ensure we continue to provide multi-use spaces for a range of sporting codes, community use and events such as school sports carnivals.
We're also asking for feedback on three concept plan designs to repair and replace the storm-damaged jetty at Kiama Harbour.
The Kiama Harbour jetty has sustained considerable damage from storms and heavy seas over the years (in particular from severe storms in 2016 and 2020) and, with projected weather patterns showing similar conditions are likely to recur in future, we need a jetty design more suited to the location.
The jetty and harbour are popular are well-used by local fishermen and women.
Both these projects are currently at design and consultation stage only. Once we have agreed concepts, Council will need to seek grant funding for the build and construction stages.
The public are invited to attend consultation sessions on these three projects on 5 September 2023 as follows
