A new playground, skate park and multipurpose court are just some of the active spaces planned as part of a redevelopment of the youth activity space at Jeff Pezzutti Park in Woree.
Council is seeking community feedback to inform the redevelopment, which was identified as part of the Jeff Pezzutti Park Masterplan, endorsed by Council in 2018.
The precinct is home to several clubs, including the Leichhardt Junior Football Club, Bayview Scouts, and Saints Hockey, as well as a small playground, a skate park and pump track.
It is also currently home to the Woree Tennis Club, which is set to relocate to Lions Park in Earlville following completion of its $2.9 million upgrade.
Redevelopment of the activity space is the second stage of the masterplan and includes plans for:
- a new skate / scooter area
- new bump track
- new, larger playground (suitable for primary school aged children)
- new multipurpose court
- new public toilets
- improved paths and connectivity
- improved safety with clear sight lines, CCTV and lighting, and
- increased landscaping and trees.
Division 3 Councillor Cathy Zeiger said this was an opportunity for the community to help shape and guide future infrastructure at precinct.
"We want specific feedback on the types of activities and the sorts of equipment and infrastructure that the community believes are suitable for the area," Cr Zeiger said.
"With five schools in the close vicinity, this is an area that well known to local families, however the lack of appropriate infrastructure means it is not being used to its full potential.
"Improving the aspect of the precinct will make it more inviting and accessible, and will also help address the lack of open recreational space in Woree.
All public input will be considered in development of a concept, with detailed consultation with families, youth and industry to guide the final design to be adopted by Council.
The consultation period is from 3 July to 28 July.
