The State Government is calling for expressions of interest for nine community member positions that will help shape the future planning and development of the Swan Valley region.
Following introduction of the Swan Valley Planning Act 2020, the Western Australian Planning Commission is establishing a new Swan Valley Statutory Planning Committee to determine development applications, subdivision and structure plans within the region.
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has called for suitably qualified applicants to nominate for two positions reserved for community members on the statutory decision-making committee.
Applicants must demonstrate practical knowledge or experience relevant to the various industries and activities of the Swan Valley, including horticulture, viticulture, equestrian and tourism, and would also need to appropriately represent the interests of local residents and businesses in determining development proposals.
A further seven positions are open for the Swan Valley Strategic Leadership Group, a new advisory body to support the Minister for Planning on matters relating to the protection, promotion, marketing and enhancement of Perth's unique Swan Valley region.
Local representation will play an integral role in implementing a new planning framework for the Swan Valley, ensuring that the region remains an attractive and thriving destination that balances various land uses sympathetic to the rural setting.
