More than $115,000 will be shared by 11 local community groups and organisations to deliver events, activities and programs that enhance our community.
Councl today endorsed funding from its Community Partnerships Grant stream to support a variety of events and activities, including Far North Queensland Relay for Life, Cairns Colour Festival – Holi, and the Gordonvale Sugar Solstice Country Fair.
The grant stream aims to promote events that enhance the lives of residents, celebrate important community occasions, and provide opportunities to develop social cohesion and connection in the Cairns region.
The following organisations will receive support for their events:
- Cairns Indian Association Inc for the Cairns Colour Festival – Holi: $6,800
- Cancer Council Queensland for Far North Queensland Relay for Life 2025: $23,200
- Gordonvale District Chamber of Commerce Inc for the Gordonvale Sugar Solstice Country Fair: $7,000
- Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre Inc for the Community Fun Day 2025: $3,000
- Mossman Port Douglas Senior Rugby League Club Inc for the Reconciliation Rugby League Carnival: $10,000
- North Queensland International Motor Raceway Association Inc for Thunder in the Canefields 2025: $15,000
- Our Future Mentors Indigenous Corporation for the Edor Carnival: $20,000
- Smile With Kids Inc for the Japan Day of Hope: $2,000
- Tobruk Swim Club Inc for the Tobruk Long Course Inter-Regional Invitational: $11,500
- UMI Arts Limited for the UMI Arts 20th Anniversary Exhibition: $11,500
- Chabad North Queensland Incorporated for the Chanukah Community Event – Festival of Lights 2024: $5,350
