Two community meetings were held in Queanbeyan last week for members of the community affected by the devastating bushfires, NSW Police say.
Just before midday on Friday (17 February 2017), emergency services were alerted to a fire in Carwoola, 12km south east of Queanbeyan.
The fire had later spread to the Widgiewa road, Whiskers Creek road, Bowen street and Captains Flat road areas.
As a result of the fire, a number of homes and structures on various properties were destroyed. This followed another serious bush fire in the Currandooley area in mid-January.
Since the fires, NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW State Emergency Services (SES) have assisted in assessing the damage to each structure.
Together, the Lake George Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) along with the Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council, have set up a local recovery hotline for members of the public to ring or email their concerns and request assistance they may require to help them better recover from the bushfires.
The hotline will be manned by two recovery coordinators Mrs Lorrae Stokes and Mr Chris Duncan. They will seek consultation from the community about their needs and offer advice. They will also advise the Local Emergency Management Committee on any issues or requests for service along the way.
All members of the community who have been affected by the recent bushfires are advised to register any assistance they may require with the recovery coordinators as soon as possible. This may include damage or assistance required for houses, machinery, fences, animals, feed for stock, personal items, mental health welfare or other property damage.
Representatives from Blaze Aid are also available to take registrations from members of the public who require assistance to repair their damaged fences.
