Western Downs Regional Council invite the community to a free sausage sizzle on Wednesday 7 May, to mark the official unveiling of the Red Bench at the Tara Neighbourhood Centre.
The Red Bench project is an initiative of the Red Rose Foundation, established to raise awareness of domestic and family violence (DFV).
Western Downs Regional Mayor Andrew Smith said installation of the Red Bench is part of Council's broader commitment to supporting safe, inclusive, and connected communities across the region.
"This Red Bench is a visible symbol of our stance against domestic and family violence," Mayor Smith said.
"The bench will have a plaque fixed to it that displays the message 'Domestic Violence: Let's Change the Ending,' and when sitting on the Red Bench it's a space for reflection, education, and a reminder that we all have a role to play in ending DFV.
"Representatives from the Tara Neighbourhood Centre, Western Downs Regional Council, and community groups will come together to support awareness, prevention, and action against DFV.
"The official unveiling of the Red Bench will commence at 11am on Wednesday 7 May and the community are encouraged to enjoy a free sausage sizzle, connect with others and show your support for raising awareness and taking action against DFV," Mayor Smith said.
Supported by the Western Downs Regional Council, Tara Neighbourhood Centre, Tara Shire State College and Tara Police, the bench was designed by students from Tara Shire State College.
