Following recent storm activity that saw unprecedented rainfall impact the region, AlburyCity continues to respond to community calls for assistance.
Mayor Kylie King said councillors and council teams have been saddened to learn of some of the impacts caused to residents homes and properties due to the flood events.
"We seek your patience and understanding as we continue to support our community through the recovery process," said Mayor King.
"More than 1,600 calls have been received to date, with both field and office-based teams doing a tremendous job in prioritising and attending where assistance was most needed.
"We're continuing to work closely with local emergency and support agencies to ensure a coordinated approach, and where we haven't been able to respond immediately, we've focussed on keeping residents and businesses informed," Mayor King said.
"To date, we've addressed more than 1,000 of the calls received, and as we continue to work through the sheer volume we thank our community for their patience and understanding."
AlburyCity CEO Frank Zaknich said over the weekend 50-100mm of rain fell, with localised flooding occurring in a number areas across our city.
"The Hamilton Valley, Splitters Creek and South Albury were significantly impacted, with ours crews assisting and supporting the community through day and night," Mr Zaknich explained.
"The clean-up has continued into this week, with a focus on clearing fallen trees and unblocking drains.
"Council teams have also continued to consult with Thurgoona residents following the significant flooding that occurred on 14 January, which triggered the Natural Disaster Declaration application to the NSW Government – we're awaiting a formal response.
"Businesses in the CBD have been contacted this week to discuss drainage issues in and around Dean St, with design for upgrades to the stormwater network included in this year's works program," Mr Zaknich said.
To ensure the community can stay up to date with where Council has focussed its' efforts, what is planned for the coming week, and the longer-term strategies that are in place to managed the impact of storms, a new page on the AlburyCity website is being established and will be available to the community in the coming days.
"Council crews continue to be out and about responding to storm events and keeping the community safe, however if emergency assistance is required please call the SES on 132500... if it's life-threatening call 000," added Mr Zaknich. Good advice on how to protect your home from storms is available from the SES.
