It's leaf season, which means the Ballarat municipality's spectacular autumn fall is in full flight and thousands of leaves are expected to be collected in the coming months.
The City of Ballarat is encouraging residents to re-use their leaves for composting or mulching their garden beds.
Residents can also add leaves to their green waste bin with the lime green lid. Green waste is recycled and turned into compost.
City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said there's never been a better time to turn over a new leaf and embrace composting.
"Ballarat and towns across our municipality are known for their beautiful autumn foliage but once those leaves fall, it's great to dispose of them sustainably," he said.
"Autumn leaves are rich in carbon, making them an excellent addition to home composting systems or garden mulch.
"Reusing leaves for compost and mulching helps divert waste from landfill and reduces greenhouse gas emissions."
Collection assistance
City of Ballarat's Street Cleaning team complete an annual leaf collection program throughout the city, which includes removing leaves from bluestone gutters where leaves can pile up and not wash away.
With so many leaves falling in a short amount of time, additional staff and equipment are engaged throughout autumn each year.
Ballarat residents needing help with their nature strip leaf collection can contact the City of Ballarat for assistance.
Please be aware that the team is in high demand during leaf season, and it may take up to three weeks for leaves to be collected.
Requests for leaf collection should be made through the City of Ballarat's Customer Service on 5320 5500, online via the City of Ballarat website, or use the Snap Send Solve app to quickly request leaf collection to us 24/7.
