The Tasmanian Government is proud to support Seniors Week, which runs from 14-20 October 2024.
Minister for Community Services, Roger Jaensch, this week attended the Scrabble with Friends event at Mathers House, one of more than 380 events being held across the State during Seniors Week.
Minister Jaensch said this year's theme, Connecting Generations, invites all Tasmanians to recognise the power of maintaining connections between community members born across every decade.
"Seniors Week celebrates older Tasmanians and recognises the contributions they make to our communities and provides the opportunity to engage through programs and activities that bring us all together," Minister Jaensch said.
"Tasmania has a wonderful network of community organisations that connect generations every day and play host to many Seniors Week events, such as Neighbourhood Houses and Centres, Men's Sheds and community clubs.
"There's plenty on offer across this year's program, including a slam poetry showcase, meditation classes, virtual reality experiences and Queenstown's Health Fest West.
"Thank you to the participating organisations that, along with Council on the Ageing Tasmania, bring this event to life right across the State."
As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Liberal Government is providing an additional $200,000 per year over two years to Council on the Ageing Tasmania so it can continue to support its Seniors Week, Elder Abuse prevention services and advocacy for older Tasmanians.
