Australia's quickest Wingless Sprint speedway drivers will converge on Mildura for two consecutive weekends of the very best Wingless Sprint racing in the country, drawing thousands of visitors to the region.
The action kicks off this weekend at Timmis Speedway with two nights of racing on Saturday and Sunday to decide the 2025 Australian Wingless Sprint title, drawing more than 150 drivers and their support crews from across the country.
Many of the same drivers will return to Timmis Speedway the following weekend for the final round of the category's Australian Wingless Sprint Series on Saturday, 15 March.
Councillor for Events and Tourism Rebecca Crossling said Council was proud to support both events through the Events Funding and Support Grants program, highlighting the benefits of Mildura hosting two national-calibre events over consecutive weekends.
"Hosting two national title events back-to-back over two weekends means many of the drivers and their support crews will stay for the entire week, as could many of the more than 2,000 spectators," Cr Crossling said.
"This will provide a major sustained boost for our region's hard-working tourism industry, taking in accommodation, retail, hospitality and the numerous specialist tourism operators.
"While our region's local businesses will receive an immediate economic kick over the coming two weekends – in the vicinity of an estimated $750,000 - this is also the perfect opportunity to potentially introduce Tropical North Victoria to hundreds, if not thousands of new visitors to the region.
"This could translate into future bookings and further tourism growth for our region for months or years to come."
Cr Crossling said the timing of the two events also provided a healthy economic boost for the region ahead of the massive Easter long weekend in April.
