The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (TCCH), has completed the conservation works at the mosque in the village of Kalavasos/Kalavason, within the framework of the "Support to cultural heritage monuments of great importance for Cyprus", a project funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
This was marked by a visit with the participation of the TCCH Co-Chairs and members of the Advisory Board, representatives from the European Commission, the Office of the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus and UNDP, the diplomatic community, the technical team and members of the public.
The mosque is located between Larnaca and Limassol. The conservation works involved a comprehensive series of interventions to safeguard the mosque's structural integrity whilst preserving its architectural and historical significance. These efforts included site cleaning, removal of vegetation followed by replastering of walls and comprehensive repairs to the roof, wooden doors, windows and minaret. Particular care was devoted to preserving the mosque's intricate stonework and architectural details.
