A sod turning ceremony marked the formal commencement of a new multi-level golf and entertainment venue set to transform the Fremantle Public Golf Course into a year-round destination.
LaunchPad Golf Fremantle will deliver a premium, technology-led social experience built around golf, combining interactive driving range technology with food, beverage and hospitality to appeal to a broad audience beyond traditional golfers.
Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver said he was looking forward to hitting some golf balls when the redevelopment is complete.
"I'm also excited about ensuring that participation and usage of this new facility is safe and affordable, while also remaining inclusive to members of the public."
The development is being delivered in partnership with Belgravia Leisure as the operating partner, with construction led by Sarich Building.
LaunchPad Golf Fremantle Licensee and Managing Director Scott Gunson said the move from planning into delivery will start to bring this vision to life.
"This isn't just about building a venue-it's about creating a place people come back to regularly. A place that adds energy to the precinct and gives locals something they can genuinely connect with."
Patrick Chaney from Sarich Building said, "We're pleased to be delivering a project of this scale in Fremantle, and a high-quality outcome for the community."
Douglas Bailey from Belgravia Leisure said, "We're excited to be part of a development that will make golf more accessible, social and engaging for a wider audience."
The project is designed to activate the existing public golf course by extending operating hours and broadening its appeal to include social users, families, corporate groups and visitors.
In addition to the main venue, the development will deliver new public-facing infrastructure, including a pro shop, upgraded amenities and a café connection to Booyeembara Park.
The City of Fremantle has contributed $3.2million towards some of the capital works at the 9-hole public golf course, which will remain open during the construction period.
LaunchPad Golf Fremantle is expected to open in May 2027.
