Construction is officially underway on the new $25 million Goulburn Police Station which will bolster police capabilities and community safety in the growing region.
This long-awaited station is being built on a new site on McDermott Drive in Goulburn, replacing the current station on Sloane Street.
It will include:
- A Command office;
- General Duties area;
- Charge area;
- Spaces for police to conduct interviews and testing;
- Storage facilities, change rooms and a dock area;
- and new carparks.
A sod turn for the site occurred in 2021 under the former Liberal-National Government which coincided with commencement of a protracted planning process.
During the planning phase, a number of challenges were required to be addressed in the design, which has now been finalised to allow building works to commence this month.
The new station will be a central regional policing hub for the Goulburn district and will ensure local officers are supported with the resources they need to better support their community and tackle crime.
Today we are also announcing that early works have begun on a new indoor firing range at the Goulburn Police Academy.
It will have 12 x 25 metre lanes with a retractable system, a control room, observation room, weapon training area and gun cleaning room.
The range is part of a larger, $74 million upgrade to the Goulburn Police Academy which includes new technology and training facilities, ensuring recruits continue to receive world-class training.
Both the firing range and new Goulburn Police station are expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said:
"Our police do incredible work keeping our community safe and the new station will ensure officers have the modern facilities and resources to continue to fight crime and support this growing region.
"The current Goulburn Police Station is 115 years old, so it's certainly time for an upgrade.
"Hundreds of recruits train at the Goulburn Police Academy every year - we're investing in new facilities and modern technology to ensure these new police officers are well-trained to do their jobs safely and effectively.
"The Minns Labor Government backs the NSW Police Force to the hilt and is making sure they have the capability required to keep our community safe."
NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Rod Smith, APM Infrastructure and Assets Command said:
"Alongside the most up to date technology and facilities, this new station will provide a centralised location to bring specialist police like Prosecutors, Investigators, Forensic, Rescue and Highway Patrol officers to work alongside General Duties officers.
"Building works has commenced this month and we are looking forward to opening the station in the second half of 2026."
