The Cook Labor Government will soon start construction on the new Women and Babies Hospital Project with Georgiou Group awarded the contract to design and construct the western car park.
The new multi-deck car park - the first of two being delivered as part of the project - will be built along Jennalup Drive.
Design will start immediately, with multi-deck parking to support the precinct's future growth as it becomes home to the new world-class Women and Babies Hospital.
This multideck car park is being delivered by the Department of Transport's Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery, which is also investigating improvements to transport networks to reduce congestion and enhance access to the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct.
As part of these improvements, a precinct study is underway which will develop innovative solutions to enhance pedestrian and cyclist access, while encouraging greater use of public transport.
It follows the Cook Labor Government's latest progress to appointing a managing contractor for the landmark new Women and Babies Hospital project.
Global construction company Webuild and Australian construction company Roberts Co, as joint venture partners, signed a letter of intent with the Cook Labor Government last month.
The new Women and Babies Hospital project is set to expand services and choice for women, newborns and families across WA and replace the century-old King Edward Memorial Hospital.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"We're committed to delivering a new Women and Babies Hospital and we know how critical it is to get construction underway for thousands of more car bays, which will significantly benefit those who visit or work at the precinct.
"The new car parks, along with associated road network improvements, will support enhanced access to this major health precinct and support local jobs during construction.
"The Cook Labor Government will always do what's right by WA and delivering a world-class hospital will meet the needs of women and families into the future."
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"This project demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering key quality infrastructure that supports our continued growth and local jobs in our community.
"We are also looking at innovative solutions to support increased pedestrian, cyclist and public transport use within the precinct."
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"Car parking is fundamental to all hospital projects and these two new multi-deck car parks will improve access for all patients, staff, and visitors to both Fiona Stanley Hospital and our new Women and Babies Hospital.
"The new world-class Women and Babies Hospital will expand services and choice for women and families and replace King Edward Memorial Hospital."
