New data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has confirmed that Tasmania is continuing to break records.
Engineering construction, the total value of engineering construction work done, in Tasmania has hit an all-time high of $609 million in the December 2024 quarter.
Total engineering construction work over 2024 was $2.38 billion, a 4.9 per cent increase on 2023 and an all-time high over a 12-month period. The value of total construction over 2024 was $4.49 billion.
Treasurer, Guy Barnett, said this momentum must be harnessed.
"Engineering and construction are part and parcel of being Tasmanian – it's how we built the Hydro, it's how we're building the Bridgewater Bridge and it'll be how we build the stadium," the Treasurer said.
"We have seen consistent growth in construction enabled by red tape reduction, our considered investments and strong collaboration with the private sector.
"These are all core focusses of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future and through it we're backing business, backing jobs and backing the economy.
"We are looking to the future and putting in place even stronger foundations to stimulate this growth.
"From our first ever Earthworks Academy at Quercus Park, our ongoing relationships with community training partners and peaks, to free TAFE, we are acting, not waiting.
"We're building Tasmania's future and this data backs in our approach."
