Construction Commenced on Lithgow Resource Recovery Centre

Lithgow Council

Construction is now officially underway on the Lithgow Resource Recovery Centre located at existing Solid Waste Facility 68 Geordie St, Lithgow.

Construction of Lithgow Council's $3 million Resource Recovery Centre is now well underway. Structen Pty Ltd have been awarded the construction contract and with good weather it is hoped the facility will be finished toward the end of October 2021.

Mayor Ray Thompson said "it is great to see the commencement of works at the Resource Recovery Site. This facility will be an asset to the Lithgow Community providing improved options for recycling and disposal of problem wastes in a user friendly environment."

Councilor Deanna Goodsell also commented on the project "Lithgow Solid Waste facility is going from strength to strength. It's a win for our community. I am extremely proud to be part of this process and thank Councilors, Council staff and the State Government for their contribution to making this a reality."

The facility will provide local members of the public the following services:

  • All-weather unloading areas away from the landfill for recyclable materials such as paper/cardboard, metal, e-waste, mattresses, tyres and motor oil.
  • A stockpile and processing area for commercial and bulky wastes such as timber, bricks and concrete, logs/stumps and green waste.
  • A re-use shed to allow usable items (e.g. furniture) to be kept in a separate area and made available to the general public for re-use.
  • An EPA funded Community Recycling Centre that will allow safe disposal of problem household wastes for free such as paint, batteries, smoke detectors and fluoro light tubes.

Council representatives met with Structen Pty Ltd representatives for the first sod turning.
