Construction jobs are flowing as work begins on infrastructure projects announced yesterday as part of the Marshall Government's economic stimulus package to support local jobs.
Progress is already underway on key projects announced as part of our $145 million infrastructure stimulus package, including;
- Releasing a tender today for shoulder sealing works as part of the $12 million North-South Freight Route;
- Works starting next week on the upgrade of Adventure Way which forms part of th $6 million packahge, including the Innamincka Airport access road; and,
- Works underway on a $7 million upgrade of the Stuart Highway.
"We've hit the ground running and now we've secured Federal funding we are getting shovels in the ground and releasing tenders to create more than 200 jobs," said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.
"We are getting these regional projects out the door as quickly as possible to help keep more South Australians in a job and make our country roads safer.
"Over the next four years we are upgrading over 1,000 kilometres of country roads to improve safety and help save lives.
"As part the tender being released today, we are seeking to fix approximately 39-kilometres of road between the Sturt Highway and Murray Bridge.
"In addition, we are also currently fixing over 300 kilometres of country roads across South Australia to support local construction jobs and improve road safety.
"These include fixing 100 kilometres of the Ngarkat Highway, 100 kilometres of the Browns Well Highway, 67 kilometres of Cleve Road and around 12 kilometres of the South Eastern Freeway.
"While we are dealing with the immediate impacts on jobs and the economy COVID19 is having, we are also ensuring we have a record $12.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure works to underpin jobs in the coming years.
"This record level of infrastructure investment in South Australia will give local businesses confidence in the sector so they can create more jobs."
