- Annual awards recognise outstanding building suppliers and contractors on non-residential WA Government projects
- Categories recognise regional and Aboriginal contractors, best project and other consultants
Outstanding building suppliers and contractors have been recognised at the 2024 Department of Finance Supplier Performance Awards.
The awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate outstanding performance by construction contractors on non-residential WA Government projects.
Each of the award winners provided exceptional value on projects for the WA community over the preceding two years.
For the first time, this year's ceremony was held at His Majesty's Theatre, showcasing the reinstated heritage balconies and building refurbishment completed in 2023 and delivered by finance and construction company, Built. The project was also a finalist in the Western Australian Heritage Awards, recognising its significant contribution to preserving Western Australia's architectural heritage.
The Award winners were:
- Best Contractor: Kimberley Green Constructions;
- Best Regional Contractor: Colab Construction;
- Best Aboriginal Contractor: GBSC Yurra;
- Best Consultant: iredale pedersen hook architects;
- Best Cost Manager: Ralph Beattie Bosworth; and
- Best Project: Perth Zoo Caf and Function Centre - Crothers Construction, CHRISTOU Design Group, and Rider Levett Bucknall.
Kimberley Green Constructions won the Best Contractor Award for its outstanding performance on the HVAC and associated upgrades at the Looma and Dampier Peninsula Multi-Functional Police Facilities and the North Regional TAFE Kununurra Health and Hospitality Training Centre.
Colab Construction has been recognised at the awards in consecutive years winning the Best Aboriginal Contractor Award in 2023 and this year winning the Best Regional Contractor Award. GBSC Yurra was commended for their collaboration with stakeholders and focus on Aboriginal training and employment, while iredale pedersen hook architects were recognised for their innovative modular solutions and maximising the involvement of local and Aboriginal businesses.
Winning the Best Project Award, the $17.7 million Perth Zoo Caf and Function Centre features three dine-in and takeaway outlets, as well as a coffee and wine bar. Head contractor, Crothers Construction, consultant CHRISTOU Design Group, and Cost Manager, Rider Levett Bucknall, were recognised for their collaboration and professionalism in achieving excellent project outcomes.The project managers from the Department of Finance and Perth Zoo were also recognised for their performance.
As stated by Finance Minister Sue Ellery:
"All the 2024 Supplier Performance Award winners have demonstrated their commitment to industry leading standards and innovation having delivered outstanding outcomes on government projects.
"I congratulate them all for their exemplary work over the past two years on projects that provide the Western Australian community with new health, police, fire and emergency services and cultural facilities.
"This Government recognises the important role the building and construction industry plays in delivering outcomes to the community and maintaining Western Australia's strong economy.
"A strong pipeline of future work in excess of $42.4 billion has been committed ensuring plenty more work will be available to local and Aboriginal businesses across the State."
