- Consultation draft of amended WA strata regulations now available
- Changes aim to expand education and experience requirements for strata managers
- Consultation will close on 9 December 2024
The State Government has today opened a public consultation on draft regulations to elevate professional knowledge and experience within Western Australia's strata management industry.
The draft regulations amend WA's existing Strata Titles (General) Regulations 2019 and introduce a new education model for strata managers to raise industry standards and enhance services for strata owners and tenants.
The proposed model was developed following extensive industry consultation and public consultation.
Among other changes, the draft regulations include a baseline qualification requirement of a full Certificate IV in Strata Community Management and introduces experience requirements for all professional strata managers.
The consultation draft of the 'Lands Regulations (Community and Strata Titles) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2024' is open for feedback until 9 December 2024 on Landgate's website .
Strata managers will have two years from the commencement of the legislation (anticipated in 2025) to meet the new requirements.
As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:
"The State Government has worked to develop a better-fit education model for WA's strata management sector.
"The proposed model will ensure strata managers are equipped with the skills and qualifications needed to meet the growing demands of the industry.
"By raising professional standards and expanding qualifications we anticipate improvements across the sector that will ultimately benefit strata owners and tenants State-wide.
"These important changes build on significant strata reforms our Government has implemented since 2020, with major reforms delivering better buyer protections, dispute resolution and scheme management, modernising our State's strata legislation."
