Consultation Open: New Plan For ARC-Funded Research

Today, the Australian Research Council (ARC) has released the Discussion Paper: A New Plan for ARC-Funded Research.

The Minister for Education asked the ARC to work with the Department of Education to undertake a Policy Review of the National Competitive Grants Program.

The Discussion Paper has been developed following extensive public consultations undertaken with stakeholders in 2024.

With its release, the ARC Board invites engagement and feedback from stakeholders in response to the proposed future model for the National Competitive Grants Program.

The proposed model includes a complete re-design of scheme structure, further streamlining of administrative processes, greater focus on the generation of new knowledge, and strengthened opportunities for early career researchers.

"The goal, quite simply, is to enhance the way the ARC encourages and supports the very best, most creative research," said ARC Board Chair, Professor Peter Shergold AC.

The ARC Board invites feedback to the proposed model to inform a final report to be delivered to the Government in mid-2025. Submissions are now open and will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, 13 April 2025.
