Following a competitive tender process, Council has appointed Kane Constructions for the construction of the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub.
This is a major milestone in the progress of the landmark community facility, which is jointly funded by the Greater Geelong Council ($44.84 million), the Victorian Government ($8.5 million) and the Australian Government ($8.26 million).
Tender submissions were evaluated by the City's Tender Evaluation Panel and the preferred contractor was selected on the basis of their capability, experience, and ability to deliver this important infrastructure contract.
Co-located with Barwon Health North, there will be a unique opportunity for the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub to explore complementary health and wellbeing services.
The Northern Aquatic and Community Hub is anticipated to attract 600,000 visits every year, delivering $111 million in preventative health benefits during its first decade of operation alone.
Construction of the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub is expected to commence in early 2022 and be completed by late-2023.
The Honorable John Eren - Member of Parliament
The Northern Aquatic and Community Hub will be great for the local community.
It will deliver state-of-the-art facilities to support local residents and also be great for local jobs, expecting to deliver 128 jobs during construction.
I am proud that it will sit next to the State Government's $33 million Barwon Health-North facility, so this whole precinct will be a fantastic hub for our community members. This will truly be a magnificent destination for recreation, health and wellbeing experiences.
