The State Government has engaged Cooper & Oxley under the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process for the new Tom Price and Paraburdoo hospitals.
Under the ECI process, Cooper & Oxley will participate in the design phase for the main works of both projects while simultaneously progressing forward works on the Tom Price site.
The purpose-built facility at Tom Price will include a modern emergency department, four-bed inpatient ward, dental and pathology services and consult rooms as well as contemporary ambulatory care facilities to support visiting services, including outpatient specialists and community mental health.
The Paraburdoo redevelopment will take place at the existing hospital site and includes a new, contemporary emergency department, integrated primary and community care services and space for an on-site private GP clinic.
Geotechnical engineering and ground surveying work is set to commence at the Tom Price site soon, which will be followed by a forward works program.
The Cook Government has partnered with Rio Tinto to deliver the hospital upgrades.
Rio Tinto has contributed $20 million to the Tom Price Hospital project with a further $20 million from its $250 million commitment to the Government's Resources Community Investment Initiative for the Paraburdoo Hospital project.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"Securing a contractor is a major step towards delivering these critical projects for the Pilbara.
"The upgrades to Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals will bring these facilities into the future, so they can continue providing a great service to the community for decades to come.

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
