Some great outcomes with regards to weed management are expected to be achieved over the coming months following 22 successful applications in the Western Weed Management Program.
The Program, which was run by Western Local Land Services, will assist 22 landholders to improve and sustain the condition of close to 41,500 hectares of natural resources in the Western region through the control of invasive species, specifically African Boxthorn, which threatens the condition of the Coolibah-Black Box Endangered Ecological Community.
Senior Land Services Officer, Brian Dohnt is pleased with the level of interest in the program and with all contracts issued, is looking forward to seeing the on-ground works get underway.
"These invasive species can really impact on a landholder's productivity and on biodiversity so it is great to have an opportunity to carry out some control work," Mr Dohnt said.
"The 22 landholders that are involved in this program are proactive land managers that we hope will achieve some great outcomes toward weed management."
The Program will complement works that were undertaken last financial year by landholders that were successful in receiving funding in a similar program.
That program saw 15 landholders manage a combined area of over 23,000 hectares in Ivanhoe, along the Lachlan River (Euabalong to Hillston), Brewarrina and Broken Hill.
