Council's heritage advisor, Pip Giovanelli, will be on-site at Berridale Public School's Science and Heritage Centre on Saturday 5 August 2023 between 10am and 2pm to scan photos and documents into the collection for the Berridale Main Street Study.
Mr Giovanelli will be joined by the Snowy River Historical Society, who will be available to add any historical submissions to the town's independent history collection.
While the primary focus of this collection drop-in is on photos and documents, we welcome and strongly encourage anyone with anecdotal history to share their memories and stories with us. Much of the history of these buildings and the people behind them is not written down, or photographed, and learning the story behind the evidence is just as important as the evidence itself.
If you have images of Jindabyne Road in Berridale from the 1860s through to the 2000s, please drop in on 5 August, or contact Council to contribute and we will arrange to have them professionally scanned and archived.
The Berridale Main Street Study is stage three of the grant-funded Berridale Beautification Masterplan, which will use the history of Jindabyne Road to inform the detailed plans for the future of the core of the town.
Council's Berridale Beautification Masterplan is possible thanks to Round Five of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund.
The purpose of a Main Street Study is to make the street a more attractive destination, generating greater visitor numbers and longer visiting times for businesses. This also means a more vibrant community and local economy.
This study provides advice on the heritage and urban design of Berridale's main street, aiming to assist private property owners and Council to conserve and improve properties and public areas.
