Libraries have always been places to discover and explore new ideas with like-minded people. Kiama Library has a name for that – Conversation Hour – a series of short talks by authors and speakers about books and interesting topics.
Kiama Library has a great line up of talks coming up over the next few months, kicking off with acclaimed music writer Jeff Apter on Saturday 5 August, discussing his new biography on Neil Finn.
At the end of August, Gabbie Stroud, the bestselling author of 'Teacher', is talking about 'The Things that Matter Most', her powerful and moving novel about a school community in crisis. A must-read for parents and teachers, and everyone who cares about our schools.
At Gerringong Library, on Saturday 26 August, local children's author AL Tait is launching her latest middle-grade novel, 'The First Summer of Callie McGee' - inspired by our very own Seven Mile Beach. A fun event for kids, families, lovers of children's books, teachers and supporters of all ages. The winners of the kids Beach Art Competition will be announced and prizes awarded at the launch, too.
In August, the ever-popular Death Cafe also returns to Kiama Library, where you can have an open, light and relaxed conversation on death, dying and end of life over afternoon tea, facilitated by the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Compassionate Community.
Stay tuned for more interesting talks in the next few months, including Australia's favourite crime thriller novelist, Chris Hammer, and award-winning science journalist Jonica Newby. The popular NaNoWriMo writing workshop series also returns in November with a great line up of local and popular authors at the helm.
Upcoming Conversation Hour events are all free or low-cost (Friends of Kiama Library events are $8 FOKL members/$10 guests - including a delicious afternoon tea).
