- Facility will provide additional space to meet the growing demand for equine therapy services
- HorsePower has provided equestrian-based programs to more than 1000 Western Australians with disability
The Cook Government has announced $1.2 million funding to guarantee the future of HorsePower Hills, a charitable organisation providing equine therapy to children with disabilities in Western Australia.
Following the closure of their riding centre in Sawyers Valley, HorsePower Hills has been seeking a new long-term home to accommodate its therapy services and has been working with the Department of Communities to find a suitable site in the Perth Hills.
The State Government allocation will help secure their new 6.48-hectare property in Chidlow, providing additional space to meet growing demand for their equine therapy services, as well as a long-term home for their Perth Hills operations.
Established in 1978, HorsePower has provided therapeutic services to families and carers to more than 1,000 Western Australians with disability at eight locations across the State.
Quotes attributed to Disability Services Minister Don Punch:
"By providing the space through this property, this not-for-profit will be able to cater their services to more Western Australians with disability.
"This funding also enables HorsePower the long-term certainty required to deliver newer equine therapy facilities.
"Organisations like HorsePower play a tremendously important role in ensuring people with disability can participate and are included in our community.
"Thank you to the 1000 plus volunteers that help deliver this essential service to support families and carers in WA."
