Cook Government backs Ellenbrook Community Hub

  • $3.5m contribution marks the honouring of an election commitment
  • Hub to provide key community asset for the people of Elllenbrook
  • Government to supply land for new Ellenbrook Leisure Centre

A site has been chosen for a centre that will become a key community facility for residents of the fast-growing suburb of Ellenbrook north-east of Perth.

The Cook Government is contributing $3.5 million towards the new Ellenbrook Community Hub, which will be built near Ellenbrook District Open Space adjacent to the Ellenbrook Bowls Club.

The site was previously earmarked for the Ellenbrook Leisure Centre - but that facility will now be built on land provided by the State Government.

The Hub will accommodate a host of important community groups that provide positive recreation and social opportunities, as well as help and support for residents in the area.

The City of Swan has prepared a preliminary concept design for the Hub, which will be the subject of extensive community consultation.

Besides the State Government's significant $3.5 million contribution to the new Hub, the Federal Labor Government has also contributed $2 million, with the City of Swan providing the land and project management.

As stated by Local Government Minister David Michael:

"I am thrilled to see another one of our Government's many election commitments come a step closer to reality, with a site chosen for the Ellenbrook Community Hub.

"Ellenbrook is a fast-growing suburb and the $3.5 million in funding from the State Government for the Hub is another example of our commitment to residents of the area, as construction progresses on the Morley-Ellenbrook rail line.

"The Hub will be a crucial community asset for the people of Ellenbrook, housing many of its vital social and community groups.

"I am also proud that the State Government can provide land for the new Ellenbrook Leisure Centre.

"This is an all-round great result for the community of Ellenbrook."

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

"I am proud to have advocated for the people of Ellenbrook on this project, and the State Government's $3.5 million contribution highlights its commitment to the local community.

"As our vibrant community grows, groups across Ellenbrook and Aveley consistently tell me that they need affordable access to a venue that can host events and also be a home base, with storage and meeting spaces.

"I take great pleasure in supporting these groups as their local member and I know this is a much-needed facility.
