In response to the recent uptick in vandalism in the region, Snowy Monaro Regional Council is announcing the return of Graffiti Removal Day at Cooma Skate Park at 3.30pm on Tuesday 13 April 2021.
Forty-two litres of paint and other supplies have been donated by Graffiti Removal Day Australia as part of their 2021 national campaign, "it's time to love where you live!" The local initiative and supply donations have been organised by Council's dedicated Youth Team.
It's estimated that graffiti costs taxpayers in NSW more than $300 million every year, so volunteers play a big part in helping address this problem and lower the economic burden on citizens.
"Residents of the Snowy Monaro have time and again demonstrated their community spirit and willingness to do their part for the benefit of the wider region," said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
"While it's a shame we have to deal with problems like graffiti, by working together through initiatives like Graffiti Removal Day we can make a difference. I encourage all residents - not just in Cooma, but across the region - to get down to the Cooma Skate Park and lend a hand."
No sign up is required for the Cooma event and all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part. Required COVIDSafe protocols will be observed.
Further events are soon to be scheduled across Snowy Monaro. Announcements will be made through the media and on Council's social media and website when details are confirmed.
