Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development Steve Edgington has dismissed members of the Coomalie Community Government Council.
This follows the suspension of the members of the Council on 22 July 2024.
Mr Edgington said his decision was based on serious and sustained deficiencies in the Council's governance and operations.
"The decision to dismiss members of the Coomalie Community Government Council was difficult but necessary," said Mr Edgington.
"It underscores the importance of elected members meeting their obligations under the Local Government Act 2019 and serving the best interests of their communities."
The Council area includes Adelaide River, Batchelor, and Lake Bennett.
Mr Edgington said his decision was informed by submissions received from suspended members and findings in the Investigation Report.
Key findings included:
The members lacked a full understanding of their roles and responsibilities as members of council.Significant interpersonal conflicts amongst members of council.Insufficient administration of meetings, including inadequate procedures for compiling meeting agendas and minutes.Serious procedural errors during the performance review of the council's Chief Executive Officer.
"My decision paves the way for a new council to restore good governance and rebuild trust with the people of the Coomalie region," said Mr Edgington.
A general election for a new Council will be held on 23 August 2025.
Community members are encouraged to consider nominating for election.
Council's affairs will continue to be managed by Official Manager Mark Blackburn until election results are declared.
