Surf Cost Shire Council has moved closer to starting works on Coombes Road, Torquay, with the awarding of the works contract to Drapers Civil Contracting.
The works on Coombes Road will include:
- Widening and resurfacing Coombes Road from Surf Coast Highway to Ghazeepore Road.
- Sealing of the road shoulder to make a safe cycling route along Coombes Road.
- Installation of a roundabout at the busy intersection of Coombes Road and Messmate Road.
These works have been funded through Council's road renewal and developer contributions budget. The road works were originally scheduled as two separate packages of works and would have been completed across two years. The works have now been packaged together and will be constructed at the same time, therefore minimising the impact to residents along Coombes Road and delivering all of the benefits sooner.
"This project will make Coombes Road safer for all road users, including cyclists, with the increased road width and sealed shoulders," Robyn Seymour, Surf Coast Shire Council CEO said.
"Council officers will work with the contractor on the timing of the road works, working to minimise the impact on residents during construction."
"Once the timing of the road works is known, Drapers Civil Contracting will be in contact with affected residents with the impacts to them during works," she said.
"We will also keep the community up to date with the works through social media, VMS boards and regular updates in the Council columns in local newspapers".
