Cornell University's Systems Engineering Program has entered into a new partnership with Boeing's Digital & Systems Engineering Office - a collaboration that will provide Boeing with access to Cornell's renowned systems engineering expertise while offering Cornell valuable insights into real-world challenges shaping the future of the field.
The partnership, announced by Boeing, is part of a new academic initiative supporting workforce development, involving five other universities. Boeing employees will have access to professional development opportunities through the recommendation of Cornell Systems Engineering programs as a pathway for continued education and career advancement. In return, Cornell will receive support from Boeing in the form of industry use case data and feedback on courses and curriculum, ensuring the program remains aligned with evolving industry needs.
The goal of the partnership is to better understand how academia can support the growth and advancement of employees' skills, and to test new efforts to advance systems engineering education by providing active and continuous engagement around collaborative learning opportunities.
"We were incredibly impressed by what's going on at Cornell and are excited to build on the initial conversations that we started last year," said Austin Renwick, senior systems engineer at Digital & Systems Engineering at Boeing.
Founded in 1999, the Cornell Systems Engineering Program was established in response to strong corporate interest for engineers, scientists and technical professionals who want to take on leadership roles in designing, managing and optimizing complex systems. The program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to apply a systems engineering approach to problem-solving.
"Boeing is a worldwide industry leader in aerospace systems that has been an important industry partner for Systems Engineering since our program's founding 25 years ago," said Cliff Whitcomb, professor of practice and executive director of Systems Engineering. "We are honored to be included in this partnership and look forward to participating with Boeing and the other universities in future workforce development."
