5 December 2023 – The heart of Corowa lit up Friday, December 1st, in celebration of the start of the festive season with a display of Christmas lights along Sanger Street and carols hosted by MC Steve Bowen in Bangerang Park.
Joining the festivities were choirs from Sing Australia, St Mary's Primary School singing Christmas favourites as well as music from trio The Rivereens. Enthusiastic kids bopped along and enjoyed a surprise visit from Santa who roared in on the back of a motor bike.
The festive atmosphere was inspiring as the community turned out in the thousands to enjoy the Carols and take snaps with the holiday lighting displays. Attendees shopped the range of market stalls on offer from 5pm to find the perfect holiday gift and munched on snacks from one of the many food trucks including Redhead and Chef, and whisky tasting from Corowa Distilling Co.
Light Up Corowa was possible with the generous support of the Corowa Business Chamber, Rotary Club of Corowa, The Corowa Lions Club and Apex. The event was funded by the NSW State Government's Reconnecting Regional NSW - Community Events Program and is part of five events taking place this Summer across the North of the Murray region.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the atmosphere on Friday evening at Bangerang Park was nothing short of magical. "I could not think of a better way to kick off the festive season than the way we did in Corowa on Friday night," he said.
"Corowa lit up like never before and to see the smiling faces and festive joy experienced by so many was incredible. On behalf of Council I would like to thank the Corowa Business Chamber, Council staff, The Bravery and supporting organisations who worked tirelessly to ensure this event was a success and enjoyed by our community. Our shared vision to bring people together in celebration, fostering a sense of unity and joy that will shine bright through the Summer season has certainly come to fruition and I look forward to our future events with anticipation."
