Cosgrove High School Construction Begins

Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

The Tasmanian Liberal Government's $24.9 million redevelopment of Cosgrove High School is getting into full swing over the school holidays.

Tasmanian firm Vos Construction and Joinery will deliver the works and establish a presence on the school site at the end of term tomorrow.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said construction would be staged to minimise disruption to teaching and learning when students return for Term 3.

"The revitalisation of Cosgrove High School will give its staff and students an exceptional mix of new and refurbished facilities," Minister Palmer said.

"The redevelopment will deliver contemporary learning and support facilities including general learning areas, a student hub, café, catering kitchen, drama and music areas, outdoor learning spaces, amphitheatre, accessibility lift and site landscaping.

"The works also include a new reception area, car park, staff hub and specialist resource areas."

Liberal Member for Clark, Simon Behrakis, said construction is expected to be completed in late 2025, ready for the beginning of the 2026 school year.

"The revitalisation of Cosgrove High School fulfils our election commitment and demonstrates our ongoing work to deliver high quality learning facilities in local communities," Mr Behrakis said.

"Other projects underway in Glenorchy include a new Glenorchy Child and Family Learning Centre, which is nearing completion."

Works to deliver new facilities at Springfield Gardens Primary School were finished late last year and a major redevelopment of Rosetta Primary School is also planned as part of our 2024 election commitments.

As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we will continue to upgrade education facilities across the State.
