Council Adopts Marrambidya Wetland Plan Of Management

Wagga Wagga's Marrambidya Wetland is a popular space that gives locals and visitors access to a sustainable and beautiful wildlife habitat and sanctuary that is home to native birds, fish and plants.

At its Ordinary Meeting earlier this week, Council adopted a 10-year Plan of Management (PoM) for the Wetland.

Council has an obligation to ensure compliance with the Local Government Act 1993 and the Crown Land Management Act 2016 to provide clarity in the future development, use and management of community land that meets the varied needs of the community.

Council's Director Community Carly Hood said the plan gives clear direction for the Marrambidya Wetland's future use.

"The PoM was developed in consultation with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, local Wiradyuri people, site user groups and also the wider community through a survey that received 347 responses," Ms Hood said.

"The draft PoM was placed on public exhibition for 42 days and received eight formal submissions.

"The feedback mainly centred around the need for additional mowing and weed control, maintenance of the walking tracks, additional seating and signage, particularly around educating people to keep their dogs on a leash."

To help meet these community expectations, an additional $4000 per year maintenance budget was allocated during the compilation of the 2024/25 Long Term Financial Plan.

The plan has also received final approval and Minister's consent from NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
