Start-up equipment, internal building works, websites and energy efficiency upgrades are just some of the innovations that will be made possible by Corangamite Shire Council's Small Business Assistance Program.
At its September meeting in Skipton Council allocated $87,000 to help 28 business across the Shire expand their services and improve productivity. Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the grants program encourages new and existing businesses to innovate, adapt or diversify.
"By supporting new projects and business ideas, Council enables businesses to have a positive impact on our Shire's broader economy," Cr Gstrein said.
"It is one of the ways Council supports local economic development and economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.
"Applications came from a wide range of sectors including agriculture, retail, tourism, hospitality and manufacturing. That shows the diversity of enterprises that are providing goods and services to our community and beyond.
"Priority was given to new business start-ups and projects that look at innovative ways to do business."
Funding requests exceeded the budget allocation of $80,000 but Council voted to reallocate $7,000 left over from the Business Façade Improvement Program.
