Council announces grants under Our Sporting Future Funding - Round Three

Greater Shepparton City Council awarded more than $20,000 in funding to four local sporting clubs as part of the Our Sporting Future program at the May Ordinary Council Meeting.

Now in its 12th year, the program aims to assist sporting clubs with the implementation of small to medium sized infrastructure development projects to help improve their leagues.

The program also assists with development programs for new and developing sporting organisations throughout Greater Shepparton.

Funding for round three of the program was available under three categories:

  • Majors – for projects on a $1 for $1 basis but not exceeding $30,000
  • Minors – for projects on a $1 for $1 basis but not exceeding $15,000
  • Sports Aid - funding between $500 and $5,000 (without matching contributions) for special sports projects

While funding is usually assessed in two rounds annually, this year saw the opportunity to include a third round in a bid to assist more local clubs.

Four clubs were successful in receiving funding in round three of the program, with three falling under the sports aid category and a fourth under the minors.

In a program first, two new categories will be added for Round One of the Our Sporting Future Funding 2021/2022 program which opens in July.

The new categories, Women and Girls and Youth Participation, aim to help fund programs that increase opportunities for these minority groups in sporting clubs across Greater Shepparton.

Mayor, Councillor Kim O'Keeffe said she was pleased Council could continue to support local sporting clubs and organisations to ensure they were given the best chance for success.

"We hope this current and future financial support will allow sporting clubs and organisations in Greater Shepparton to prosper and continue to grow," she said.

"Our support in round three reaches right across Greater Shepparton from Mooroopna and Undera to Grahamvale and Merrigum.

"Thank you to each of the clubs and organisations who submitted an application and congratulations to those were successful in round three."
