At its July Ordinary meeting, Council awarded the Leeton Rainbow Pride Collective (LRPC) funding of $2,000 from the Quick Response Grant program to go towards the Moon Cake Festival which will be held on 21 September 2024 at Mountford Park.

The funds will help the LRPC to secure Chinese Classical Artists and the Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance, in turn creating an authentic Asian Festival ambiance, with traditional Chinese Lantern and music as well as food vendors serving traditional Asian cuisine.

Cr Krystal Maytom, Portfolio Lead for Business & Tourism, said she is looking forward to the event in September.

"Council commends the LRPC and is proud to support their efforts in bringing new multicultural events to Leeton Shire.

"The Moon Cake Festival will not only help our local Asian population feel valued through an event that is traditionally celebrated annually in their homeland but also enable the Leeton community as a whole to come together in a blend of cultures to promote inclusion, acceptance and harmony," she said.

Council's Community Grants Program includes a 'Quick Response' Grant Category which aims to support activities that arise unexpectedly, with limited notice, outside the window of the twice-yearly Community Grants Scheme.

Applications within this category are capped at a maximum of $2,000.
